Jakarta, IO – Street vendors hoisting food order using buckets at Warung Kerek Ember, Jakarta, Wed (6/12).

Warung Kerek, located in one of Jakarta’s business districts, has emerged as a more affordable dining option for workers in the area during break times. The pulley-enabled delivery system also makes it easier for customers to get their order and make payment.

The food stalls have brought a positive impact on the local economy around the riverbank by enabling the locals to earn supplementary income. Currently, there are six stalls ready to serve customers on the other side of the river.

Neneng, 38, has run her stall since 2012 when the office building complex was built. She hawks food and drinks costing between Rp3,000 to Rp5,000.

Andi, 35, said the unique ordering and delivery system is what makes his stall particularly appealing with the customers. He revealed that it only costed him around Rp500,000 to set up the pulley-rope-bucket system but he can earn up to Rp1 million per day.
