Jakarta, IO – Residents of the Kampung Bayam low cost apartement in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, have to fetch water from a reservoir (1/2) because they do not have access to clean water and also electricity.

Kampung Bayam used to be an informal settlement but it was razed to make way for development of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in 2019 during the governorship of Anies Baswedan. They were then relocated to the public housing inaugurated on October 12, 2022. They were promised that they could move in the next month.

However, this promise has been delayed due to permit, administrative matters, occupancy rates and management transfer plan. A week ago, 35 households from the Kampung Bayam Farmers Group who previously lived in temporary housing at Jalan Tongkol Warehouse Complex, Ancol, moved into apartment but were facing many issues.

They have to use water from a well and electricity using generators provided by several community groups. Even though there has been no official handover from city-owned developer PT Jakpro, a number of residents are still determined to stay there even if it lacks public utilities.
