Hundreds of Residents Evacuated Due to Smoke from Mount Merbabu Fire

Jakarta, IO – Smoke from the Mount Merbabu fire still blanketed two villages in Getasan district, Semarang, Central Java, until Sunday (29/10). This situation forced hundreds of residents to be evacuated.

Semarang Regency disaster mitigation head Alexander Gunawan Tribiantoro said there are two affected villages, namely Batur Village and Tajuk Village and 391 residents had to be evacuated to two locations, reported Detikcom, Monday (30/10).

“As many as 391 people evacuated yesterday, 91 of them to the Batur village hall, 300 of them to nearby houses,” said Alexander.

Apart from evacuating residents, Alexander also said that his agency had built makeshift field kitchen and health care post at the location including a medical team on standby to monitor the residents’ health.

“We and the Health Service have provided the medical services along with backup personnel at the community health centers around Getasan,” he said.

A fire has been burning in the forested area of Mount Merbabu National Park since Friday (27/10). The fire first appeared in Tajuk village at 8.30am WIB. (un)
