Don’t like, comment or follow presidential candidates’ social media, ASNs told

Jakarta, IO – State Civil Apparatus (ASN) are prohibited from uploading, commenting, liking, sharing or ‘following accounts of presidential candidates to ensure that they remain neutral, according to joint ministerial decision letter (SKB) 2/2022 signed on September 22 by five ministers or heads of agencies.

They were Home Ministry, Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry (KemenPAN-RB), State Civilian Bureaucracy Commission (KASN), National Civil Service Agency (BKN), per Detikcom, Monday (25/9).

The implementation of the SKB will be based on the provisions of Law 10/2016 on Regional Elections and Government Regulation (PP) 94/ 2021 on discipline of civil servants.

Apart from restrictions on digital interactions, there are several other rules which spell out types of violations of code of ethics on neutrality. One of them is putting up banners or other props and attending election rally held by presidential candidates.

Other than moral sanctions in the form of public and non-public rebuke, they will also face disciplinary sanctions ranging from moderate penalties such as demotion to honorable discharge from duty. (bp)
