Jakarta, IO – Health workers provide treatment to dengue fever patients at Tamansari Regional Hospital, Jakarta. The Jakarta Health Department (Dinkes) recorded an alarming rise in dengue fever cases to 3,875 from the beginning of the year, with six people having succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease so far.
According to data from Dinkes, a total of 3,875 dengue fever cases were reported from January to April. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry (Kemenkes) recorded 455 deaths from dengue fever until the 14th week of 2024, out of a total of 60,296 cases reported nationwide. In the same period last year, the number of dengue fever cases was only 20,502 with 162 deaths.
Relevant agencies have taken firm steps to deal with this situation. One of the preventive measures is by fogging. The public is also advised to actively monitor their immediate environment and look for any open containers containing water that can become the breeding grounds for mosquitoes and to drain or bury them.
