Hundreds of Taiwanese Citizens Arrested in Bali, Suspected of Committing Cyber ​​Crimes

Jakarta, IO – A total of 103 Taiwanese citizens were detained by the Immigration Directorate General in Tababan, Bali, Thursday (27/6). They were suspected of committing online scam or internet fraud.

Immigration director general Silmy Karim said they had been taken to Denpasar for investigation. At the location of the raid, officers found many computer devices and cellphones.

 “They are currently detained at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center,” said Silmy, per Jawa Pos, Fri (28/6).

Twelve of the detainees are women. Silmy revealed that they did not have valid stay permits. The police are still investigating whether they are part of a syndicate.

“They do not have valid documents and abused the immigration permits. They are being investigated for alleged involvement in cyber crime activities based on the number of computers and cellphones found at the scene,” said Silmy. (un)
