Indonesian Policewoman Wins 2023 UN Best Female Police Officer Award

Jakarta, IO – Renita Rismayanti, a female police officer from Indonesia with the rank of First Police Brigadier received the 2023 UN Best Female Police Officer Award. The award will be given on November 16, during the annual UN Police Week held at UN Headquarters, New York.

The announcement was made directly by the United Nations (UN) through the Deputy Secretary General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, per Antaranews, Thu (15/11).

Rismayanti serves as a Crime Database Officer) at the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The award was given for her contribution in developing a criminal database that enabled the UN Police to map and analyze crime and disorder-ridden areas.

“Police First Sergeant Rismayanti’s innovation and efforts in utilizing data in UN peacekeeping and Central African Republic police have made a significant contribution to improving security for vulnerable communities, including women and girls,” said Lacroix.

Apart from that, the criminal database developed by Rismayanti is also said to help state security forces to better plan operations, in an effort to support local residents.

First Police Brigadier Rismayanti started her career at the Republic of Indonesia Police (Polri) as a public information officer in 2014. She has also worked in the fields of training, administration and logistics.

“I hope that the visibility gained from winning this award will reinforce among women and girls that all areas of expertise in policing are open to us,” said Rismayanti.

The UN Women Police Officer Awards aim to recognize the outstanding contributions of female police officers in UN peacekeeping operations. The first award which comes to symbolize women’s empowerment in a male-dominated occupation was given in 2011. (un)
