Jakarta, IO – Indonesian Advocates Movement coordinator Petrus Salestinus revealed that the condition of the former Papua governor Lukas Enembe, began to worsen since this morning, before he passed away at 10.45am WIB on Tuesday (26/12) at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD), Jakarta. He had been treated several times for kidney failure, per Republika.

His health had continued to deteriorate since he underwent a trial for bribery and gratification at the Jakarta Corruption Crime Court (Tipikor). “Yesterday he was still in the hospital as usual. Since the trial he has received dialysis treatment,” said his lawyer.

His wake will be held tonight at RSPAD funeral home, before being flown to his homecity Jayapura, Papua, on Wednesday (27/12).

However, Petrus could not confirm when the funeral would take place. “If he is flown to Papua tomorrow, that means he will arrive in the morning and possibly the day after. His funeral will be conducted according to the local customs,” said Petrus.

Lukas Enembe was convicted for receiving Rp19.6 billion in bribes. In November, he was sentenced to eight years’ jail and ban from politics for five years. The judges also ordered him to pay Rp19.6 billion in compensation no later than one month after the decision became legally binding. (at)
