Nadiem Wants Merdeka Belajar Program to Continue in National Education Day remarks

Jakarta, IO – Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Dikbudristek) Minister Nadiem Makarim gave his best wishes to commemorate the National Education Day (Hardiknas) celebrated every May 2. Nadiem hopes that the Merdeka Belajar program, which aims to promote an educational system that nurtures lifelong learners who are highly competent, can continue to be implemented.

Nadiem said that the program has grown into a movement to enhance the country’s education quality. Its benefits have been felt by teachers, students and even cultural communities who are increasingly empowered in creating a sustainable cultural ecosystem.

“Now teachers are able to become learning leaders by creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable teaching and learning process,” Nadiem posted on his Instagram page @nadiemmakarim on Thursday (2/5).

“Through Merdeka Belajar, students have become increasingly courageous to innovate to face real world challenges. Apart from that, students throughout Indonesia are ready to embrace the future with a liberating education.

“Thank you for being a driver of change in the advancement of education and culture in Indonesia. Let’s keep moving, continue Merdeka Belajar.”

The National Education Day also commemorate the life and works of Indonesian education pioneer Ki Hajar Dewantara. He was born in Pakualaman, May 2, 1889 and died in Yogyakarta, April 26, 1959 at the age of 69. He was named a national hero who dared to oppose the discriminatory education policies of the Dutch colonial government at that time. To honor his contribution, his birthday was designated the National Education Day. (at)
