Jakarta, IO – Eko Budi Pramono, 50, is giving a finishing touch on miniature airplane made of bamboo in the Palmerah, West Jakarta. With his skills, Eko transforms discarded bamboo into miniature crafts such as planes, ships, birds, traditional houses and various other iconic buildings.

Eko learned the trade self-taught since 2018. It started out as a pastime hobby when he was a construction worker. He first started with a model boat. Unexpectedly, many of his neighbors were interested and they were sold out quickly. This was when he realized that he could monetize his hobby.

He sells the crafts between Rp25,000 to Rp1,000,000 depending on the size and level of complexity. Eko said that it takes one to two days to make small miniatures while for large ones it takes from one to two weeks.

Eko hopes to inspire the locals to follow his footsteps because it can generate additional income while at the same time protects the environment.
