Jakarta, IDM – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo today summoned the Environment and Forestry (LHK) minister Siti Nurbaya to explain the worsening air pollution problem in Greater Jakarta. This was confirmed by Presidential Secretariat deputy for protocol and media Bey Machmudin.
The air quality in Jakarta and its surrounding cities has gotten worse in recent days. Today, it even recorded the worst air quality in the world based on the air pollution monitoring site IQAir, hitting the index of 159, which falls in the unhealthy category.
Jakarta Environment Agency stated that the source of SO2 (sulfur dioxide) pollutant came from the industrial and transportation sectors.

“Meanwhile, NOx, CO (carbon monoxide), PM10, and PM2.5 are predominantly contributed by the transportation sector,” said the agency’s head Asep Kuswanto. (at)
