Jakarta, IO – The task force was set up on the directive of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to demonstrate the government’s firm stance in combating online gambling in Indonesia.
Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said the presidential decree will be issued soon.
The task force will be chaired by Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Hadi Tjahjanto and Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy as the deputy chairman, per CNN Indonesia, Fri (14/6).
Budi Arie himself will serve as the director for prevention, while National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo as the director for law enforcement. The task force is formed in response to the rampant online gambling activities which have claimed many victims and led to vices.

“Those impacted are not just people from the lower-income segment but also many from the middle and upper classes, even those who are highly educated including many academics and intellectuals,” observed Muhadjir. (un)
