Rifda Irfanaluthfi becomes the first Indonesian gymnast to compete at the Olympics


Jakarta, IO – Rifda Irfanaluthfi (24), a gymnast from Jakarta made new history for Indonesia. She will be the country’s first gymnast to compete at the Paris Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11.

The Indonesian Gymnastics Association (Persani) development and training director Hesti Diwayanti said Rifda would appear at the world-class event through the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) Rules, per Suara, Thu (20/6).

Rifda won ticket to the Paris Olympics after she performed impressively at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in Belgium in October last year.

Rifda was born in Jakarta on October 16, 1999. Her interest in the world of gymnastics grew when she was still five. At that time, she was already a young athlete and appeared in the singles and artistic gymnastics events.

Rifda then represented Jakarta in the 2014 National Games (PON), where she won two gold medals. This success then took her to Doha, Qatar to take part in the international championships in 2015. In the same year, Rifda became part of the Indonesian contingent at the SEA Games in Singapore where she won silver in the floor exercise event.

Rifda continued to make a splash in the world of international gymnastics. From 2017 to 2021, she once more represented Indonesia at the SEA Games where she won a number of championship titles in various events.

Apart from being an athlete, Rifda also does not forget her education. She managed to attain her bachelor’s degree at Jakarta State University (UNJ). (un)
