Jakarta, IO – Workers drying beach cloth in the home industry center of Krajan village, Mojolaban, Sukoharjo, Central Java. As the production center of the beach cloth industry, Mojolaban has attracted many travelers with its distinctive manufacturing process.

Unlike other villages, Mojolaban stands out for the expertise of its craftsmen in producing quality beach cloth. Thanks to their skills, comfortable fabrics with various beautiful patterns have been the source of admiration not only the locals but also people from different regions. The manufacturing process consists of different stages, from the dyeing, washing and drying. First, white rayon cloth is painted with eye-catching abstract prints which has become its signature design.

Even though the process is still done manually, the craftsmen can produce up to 60 rolls of 27m-long fabric per day. The prices range from Rp15,000 to Rp30,000, depending on the motif and size. While not as sophisticated as Solo Batik cloth in terms of popularity, Mojolaban beach cloth is known to have same quality, if not better. It’s not surprising that it attracts loyal customers come from remote areas of Bali, Sumatra.
