Jakarta, IO – Cinta Laura Kiehl is honored to have been selected as the local ambassador for the 2023 FIBA World Cup which Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines will co-host. Cinta was appointed ambassador on Tuesday, July 11, at the Indonesia Gelora Bung Karno Jakarta Arena, where the two preliminary round groups will take place. Cinta is the country’s second ambassador, following Raffi Ahmad.

“I have always loved playing basketball, since elementary school; after moving to New York, I often played basketball with strangers,” said Cinta. She is proud to see the stunning Indonesia Arena, the world’s basketball championship’s venue starting August 25.

We all hope the 2023 FIBA World Cup will motivate our athletes; may they be able to compete in the FIBA World Cup one day,” said Cinta hopeful.

“I am happy to see that this basketball arena can contain a capacity of 16,000 people, and in no time, the world athletes will be playing here, where we can see them here in person, and I am proud that Indonesia can host the event,” she added.

Cinta pays high respect to all athletes from all sporting fields, particularly basketball. “To me, an athlete is a hero who constantly works hard for the country,” she expressed. Cinta is extremely delighted to be the FIBA ambassador, as FIBA will educate school students on preserving the environment and living a sustainable life.

“Education matters! Without proper knowledge, there won’t be any concern, and in the end, we can’t have the changes that we need. I thank FIBA for involving me in the event,” added Cinta.

Cinta was selected as an ambassador following FIBA’s careful considerations, including her social media. The Indonesian LOC initially submitted three celebrity names as the candidates for the 2023 FIBA World Cup ambassador, which eventually selected Cinta Laura, who is well-known for leading a healthy lifestyle and has a large influence on Indonesia’s younger generation. Cinta also places high concern on environmental sustainability, which FIBA carries out in planning its major events.

“FIBA requires the hosting country of the 2023 FIBA World Cup to enact a sustainability program in conducting the event. FIBA wishes to leave a legacy at every major event, and Cinta is the perfect figure to promote environmental preservation. Although Indonesia may not yet consider sustainability a major concern, this could encourage sporting events to pay attention to preserving the environment. Cinta embodies that image; we can gain a lot from her experience,” said Cahyadi.

Cahyadi hopes that Cinta’s great influence on the Indonesian people, especially the younger generation, will entice the audience into participating in the success of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. “We will launch several agendas, such as the trophy tour, which will be expected to invite other basketball enthusiasts to come to Indonesia and be involved,” he continued.

Cahyadi went on to say that as ambassadors, Cinta and Raffi are responsible for promoting the event on their social media accounts, visiting schools and coming to the event.

Cinta also stated that she would come to the games at the Indonesia Arena. “There will be several matches that I will definitely watch,” she concluded. (rp)
