Jakarta, IO – A number of workers are maintaining the planting media during the revitalization of the field turf at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Jakarta (26/6). This is part of an effort to create optimal condition for matches after a similar project was carried out in 2022 during the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

The works involve renewing the grass turf that can withstand local climate and weather conditions. In this process, the GBK management collaborated with various stakeholders and experts who have the experience. The revitalization stages include laboratory examinations, sterilization of planting media, leveling of planting media, planting grass, the grow-in process and intensive care, as well as functional tests and visual monitoring of the field.

GBK management emphasized that this revitalization aims to provide the best quality of field as Indonesia will host the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification matches. The Indonesian national football team will play 10 matches in the third round, five of them to be held in Indonesia.

The competition is scheduled to begin in September. However, Indonesia’s home matches in the month will be moved to Surabaya because the GBK Stadium will be used to host Pope Francis’s visit to Indonesia.
