The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) named Sipon as a victim of human rights violations, specifically of enforced disappearance.

Sipon is survived by two children – Fitri Nganthi Wani and Fajar Merah – and a granddaughter Sava Azalia Ratu Anjani, reported Kompas.

Sipon and Wiji Thukul married in October 1988. They were known as passionate advocate of the oppressed. In 1998, Wiji Thukul disappeared. Kontras officially announced his disappearance in 2000, alleging that it was related to his political activities around March 1998.
