Single-engine aircraft crashes in Greece, killing one Indonesian

Jakarta, IO – A single-engine plane carrying two people crashed into the sea off the north coast of Crete, Greece, Thursday (15/12). A 62-year-old Indonesian man was killed, while another, a South African national aged 32, was rescued, according to Greek Coast Guard, Detik, reported on Friday (16/12).

The rescue team tried to perform CPR on the unconscious Indonesian citizen when he was lifted onboard a vessel. He was rushed to the Venizeleio hospital but died during transit.

The small plane, reportedly registered in Indonesia, took off from Iraklio Airport – around 5km from the Heraclion city center – heading to Egypt. It crashed moments after sending a mayday alert at around 9:55 a.m. local time.

The coast guard immediately went to the crash site and managed to pull the two people out from the plane. The authorities are still investigating what caused the crash. (un)
