Jakarta, IO – Flash floods hit residential areas in Suntenjaya village, Lembang district, West Bandung on Thursday (11/1) after hours of heavy rainfall causing landslides, per metrotvnews, Fri (12/1).

Suntenjaya village secretary Kiki Andrian said that wooden materials and mud caused by landslides obstructed drainage, resulting in surface runoff overflowing into the residents’ houses. This was compounded by mud flow recorded as reaching 1.5-meter high.

“The water level was about waist-high of an adult,” said Kiki.

Due to this incident, many houses were inundated. However, there was no report of death.

“The water only managed to submerge residents’ houses and shops,” she explained.

In the cleanup operation, the residents were assisted by authorities to remove material that was blocking the drainage. The thick mud combined with the still persistent rain at the location has hampered the evacuation effort. (un)
