Jakarta, IO – A gamelan set estimated to worth Rp35 million at Kawitan Pasek Gelgel Temple, Banjar Dinas Pasar, Anturan village, Buleleng, Bali, was stolen on Monday (4/3) evening.

It was first known when a group of youngsters were about to practice gamelan in preparation for the village’s Melasti religious ceremony, per Kompas, Wed (6/3).

Anturan Village chief I Ketut Soka explained that a resident found the room where the gamelan was stored had been open and the gamelan instruments were nowhere to be seen.

“Almost all the gamelan sets were gone. There were eight cengceng, two ponggang, four reong, two drums, one petuk and one kempil,” said Soka.

Soka said that the temple was never closely guarded and the door was only locked as usual. He and other residents considered that the temple’s location, which is nestled in an alley surrounded by houses, to be relatively safe.

Soka said that his party suspects that the thief entered by climbing the wall and then breaking into the storage room. The incident has been reported to the local authorities and investigation is being conducted by Buleleng Police Department. (un)
