Jakarta, IO – Suleman Dawood (19), son of British Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood (48), is officially one of the five dead passengers in the trip to retrace and rediscover the remnant of famous sunken ship Titanic using the Titan submarine owned by OceanGate, Thursday (22/06/2023).

Suleman died alongside his father and British billionaire and explorer Hamish Harding (48); French marine expert specializing in the Titanic, Paul-Henri Nargeolet (77); and CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush (61).

Shahzada’s sister, Azmeh Dawood, declared in an interview that her nephew actually expressed doubts about exploring the remains of Titanic using the submarine. “However, he decided to go anyway to please his father, as the trip was set for the Father’s Day weekend. Suleman’s father was a great fan of the Titanic, and he is well aware of that,” Azmeh said. “I still cannot believe it – it all feels so unreal,” she sobbed.

The OceanGate tourist vessel was lost in the Atlantic Ocean during its journey to retrace the journey of the Titanic on Sunday (18/06/2023). It lost contact with the shore within two hours of going under. SAR team was dispatched to search for it, but it was only found on Thursday (22/06/2023). The SAR team discovered its pieces on the seabed about 200 meter from Titanic’s ruins.

The Titan’s remnants were found at a time after the experts’ estimates of depletion of the sub’s oxygen supply. The site of the sub’s discovery also matched the site of its latest communication before contact was cut off. It is surmised that the vessel exploded because of extremely high pressure endured in the sea.
