Jakarta, IO – India has successfully made history by landing the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the surface of the moon. This success made India the first country to land on the south pole of the moon.

“Chandrayaan-3 successfully soft-landed on the moon. Congratulations India,” wrote the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on X, Thursday (24/8).

Chandrayaan-3 was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center on Sriharikota, an island off the coast of the Bay of Bengal on July 14. After more than a month of voyage, it landed on the moon exactly 12:34 GMT yesterday.

This success was witnessed directly by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He appreciated this achievement and said that he will support other countries to carry out research missions on the moon.

Indian scientists plan to measure the thermal conductivity and temperature of the moon, analyze seismic activity and its plasma density.

This mission marked India’s second attempt to land on the moon. The first attempt by sending Chandrayaan-2 failed in 2019. The spacecraft crashed into the lunar surface due to a software glitch. With the success of its moon mission, India becomes the fourth nation to ever land on moon. The other three are the US, Russia (formerly the USSR) and China. (bp)
