Tanah Datar, IO – A trader places firewood on a Bika cake baking furnace at Warung Bika Talago, Koto Baru, Tanah Datar, West Sumatra (8/9).

Bika Talago is a traditional cake from West Sumatra known for its delicious and savory taste. There are two types of Bika cake, a brown one made from a mixture of banana, brown sugar, rice flour and grated coconut. It has a dominant banana flavor and is also sweet. And white Bika cake made from the basic ingredients of rice flour, coconut water and granulated sugar.

The cake is made using firewood with a burning fire placed on top of a clay furnace containing the dough. Inside the container, banana leaves are first placed as a base for the dough which is molded in a round shape.

Warung Bika Talago is one of the famous sellers of Bika cakes on Jalan Padang – Bukit Tinggi KM 10, Koto Baru, Tanah Datar. It has been around since around the 1990s, and still maintain its original façade. The cake is sold at Rp3,000 per piece.
