Jakarta, IO – CK STAR Entertainment successfully a held Woke UP Fest, a music special festival on Saturday, 25 February 2023, at the Senayan Sports Complex, Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta. It featured both international artists One Republic, Dean Lewis, Tina She, Man with a Mission, Jessia, and Indonesian artists Padi Reborn, Kunto Aji, Marion Jola, and HIVI in its lineup.

The fun festival featured extras such as games booth, a food village, and both indoor and outdoor concert stages. The concert proper started at 16.00 on the outdoor stage, with Kunto Aji as the first performer. After, Marion Jola appeared to an enthusiastic audience, who sang along despite a pouring rain. On the indoor stage, the concert started at 17.00, with HIVI band as the starting performer.

After a short break for Maghrib or Dusk prayers, Jessia performed her hit, “I’m Not Pretty”, on the outdoor stage, while Japanese band Man with a Mission restarted the indoor performance. The 5-man band, which featured 4 musicians and a DJ dressed in funky wolf masks, started with a blast. Their energetic cover of Nirvana’s “Smells like Teen Spirit”, newly arranged with rapping and DJ mix, got the audience literally hopping.

Mid-song, guitarist Jean-Ken Johnny greeted the audience, “I’m so glad to be here, thank you Indonesia. For the first time perform in Indonesia. Ohayou gozaimasu, good morning,” he joked.

Vocalist Tokyo Tanaka followed up, in sincere if pidgin Indonesian, “Kalian yang mantap. Kalian luar biasa. Kita adalah serigala, kami suka daging, kita tidak suka sayuran! (You guys are rock solid! You guys are amazing! We are wolves, we love meat, we don’t like vegetables!),” he bantered, referring to the band’s story behind their signature wolf masks.

Man with a Mission ended their performance with a heartfelt thanks to the audience, “Thank you very much Indonesia. So please enjoy the night!”

Dean Lewis appeared right after Man with a Mission. Dressed in black, toting his guitar, he gave a soulful rendition of his hit “Falling Up”. In brief and lovely Indonesian, he introduced himself to the audience after the song: “Halo Jakarta. Nama saya Dean Lewis, (hello Jakarta, my name’s Dean Lewis). Thank you for coming,” he said.

Dean stirred up the audience so much that when he sang his popular “Be Alright”, they even thronged closer to the stage. Meanwhile, PADI Reborn entertained their happy fans outdoors.

The show peaked when American band One Republic appeared on stage with “Secret”. After the song, vocalist Ryan Tedder greeted the audience: “Jakarta, I was super honored and excited to be here! This is the luckiest city. Really, great time!” he enthused.

They followed up with the Top Gun Maverick soundtrack “I Ain’t Worried”, which caused the audience to shout in shrill joy and sing along. This was followed by “Good Life”, “Apologize”, and other hits, including “I Lose Myself”. Ryan ended the performance – as well as closing Woke UP Fest 2023 – by thanking his audience: “Thank you! I say that ‘terima kasih’, kami cinta kamu, we love you!” he said. He went on to promise that One Republic will soon return to Jakarta for their own concert. Let’s look forward to it! (des/ast)
