Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo officially inaugurated Abdullah Azwar Anas as the new Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister to replace the late Tjahjo Kumolo at the State Palace, Wednesday (7/9). Jokowi said he valued Anas’s achievements when he served as Banyuwangi regent.

“We all know that Pak Azwar Anas has a good track record when he was in charge of the bureaucracy in Banyuwangi. I saw a lot (of reforms) when I met him there,” said Jokowi, as reported by Kompas, Thursday (8/9).

“Innovations in public services, ID cards, licensing, which can be done in the market, at the mall, I think he was among the first (to implement the ideas) at that time. So, that track record is the reason why I chose Pak Azwar Anas.”

Azwar Anas was the two-term regent of Banyuwangi, East Java. His first term lasted from October 21, 2010 to October 21, 2015, and he was reelected for a second term (February 17, 2016 to February 17, 2021). He was a politician from the National Awakening Party (PKB) from 2004-2015, before joining PDI-P.
