“The worst scenario is a reference for preparing mitigation measures. So if there is an earthquake and tsunami at any time, the government and the community are ready and know what to do, including when and where to evacuate, individually or collectively,” she explained.

Dwikorita also highlighted the role of the private sector in disaster mitigation efforts, as part of the “pentahelix” synergy in disaster management.

“The involvement of the private sector in the industrial area in Cilacap regency is also crucial in strengthening the regional early warning system which has been built with community support. Given that the industrial zone on Cilacap coast is also included in the earthquake and tsunami vulnerable zone, of course the private sector must also be prepared,” added Dwikorita.

“Without adequate and reliable early warning and mitigation system, earthquake and tsunami in industrial areas have the potential to exacerbate the destruction caused in the aftermath,” he concluded.
