Should the CPO price maintain its steep price until next year, the state could gain Rp. 145.86 trillion, assuming a total CPO export of 34 million tons. That stunning figure came from roughly multiplying 34 million tons of exports with a US$ 300 levy increase, under the assumption that US$ 1 would equal Rp. 14,300.
Preposterous. How could the state establish such unfair policies? It terminated exporters’ obligation to provide cheap cooking oil to the public (by revoking the DMO/DPO) but at the same time increased the export levy for these conglomerates, by a steep amount. These policies imply that the state is robbing the people of their rights, worth Rp. 12 trillion per year.
What does the House of Representatives think? Do they still have a sliver of empathy left for the people? Hopefully, the House will promptly redress the policies, to become more pro-people and give the people back the rights from which they have been deprived.
