Jakarta, IO – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said door is open to use of marijuana for medical purposes. He recently asked the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to issue a new fatwa on this matter.
Ma’ruf said that so far the MUI has declared a blanket ban on the use of marijuana. However, he opined, MUI needs to make an exception on the use of medical marijuana.
“I ask MUI to immediately issue a fatwa [religious edict] to serve as a guidance, so that it doesn’t become excessive and harmful,” said Ma’ruf, as reported by Tempo on Thursday (30/6).
