Jakarta, IO – Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Indonesia in September. One of his main agenda is to lead a Mass, the central liturgical service of the Eucharist at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), Jakarta. Tens of thousands of devotees are expected to attend.

“More or less we can get around 60 to 70 thousand of congregants,” said the spokesperson for Pope Francis’ Visiting Committee, Father Thomas Ulun Ismoyo, per Tribunnews, Wed (3/7).

Thomas said that his party had coordinated with the State Secretariat which manages the GBK Stadium. He said the mass would be broadcast live so that Catholics who could not attend in person could also watch and feel the excitement.

Thomas explained that all people who enter the GBK Stadium must wear identification tag based on their respective dioceses. Thomas said this was based on an agreement between the Bishop and the committee and the Indonesian Bishop’s Conference (KWI).
