UNS hosts national pencak silat championship between universities in Indonesia

Solo – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosted the 2018 Inter-Higher Education Pencak Silat Championships (Perti), starting Saturday (26/11/2018) at the Sritex Arena GOR. The 7th National Championship was attended by 474 fighters from 57 universities throughout Indonesia.

“This is the largest number of participants and the highest number of universities joining the championship because it is approaching the National Youth Sports Week (PON) event; this is used as a warm-up to measure their readiness,” said National Youth Sports Week) Rony Syaifullah in the UNS Dr. Prakosa Main Building.

In the national championship, 21 medals are awarded, with 9 for men’s match categories, 6 medals for women’s match categories, and 6 medals for men and women art categories and Ministry of Youth and Sports rotating trophies.

As the host, UNS prepared for the event by involving 4 self-defense organizations in UNS including Tapak Suci UNS, UNS PSHT, UNS Perisai Diri, and UNS Merpati Putih. “All supporting facilities have been prepared, especially sports doctors and ambulances that were provided during the activity,” he said.

The opening ceremony on Sunday (25/11/2018), was attended by the UNS Rector, the General Chair of PB IPSI, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Republic of Indonesia and representatives of each 6 Pencak Silat teams from Universities in Solo. There was also entertainment in the form of the UNS Pencak Silat collaboration with the Pelatnas team, Saman Dance, Jimba Perkusi and many more.

“We have two targets in this time. First, we hope to successfully organize and achieve our goals,” Roni said. (UNS)
