UK’s new PM Sunak scheduled to meet Biden in Indonesia


Jakarta, IO – Newly minted UK PM Rishi Sunak is scheduled to meet US President Joe Biden in Indonesia during the G20 Summit in Bali in November. A spokesperson for the UK PM’s office in Downing Street said Sunak had spoken to Biden by telephone on Tuesday (25/10).

The spokesperson also revealed that the two leaders discussed cooperation between the UK and the US, both in bilateral and regional frameworks, such as the Indo-Pacific.

Indo-Pacific is the region where the AUKUS trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States is focused on as part of their efforts to counter China’s influence, reported Antara on Wednesday (26/10).

According to a statement by the spokesperson, Sunak and Biden also agreed that it is important to ensure the people of Northern Ireland have peace and security through the Belfast Agreement (Good Friday Agreement). (un)
