Two supporters die during Persib vs Persebaya duel, West Java Police confirms

Bandung, IO – West Java Police confirmed the death of two supporters of Persib Bandung football club (better known as Bobotoh) during the match against Persebaya Surabaya at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) Stadium on Friday (17/6).

West Java Police spokesperson Police Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo said they were trampled during a riot that broke out between supporters of the two football clubs. “That’s correct,” said Ibrahim via a WhatsApp message to Sindonews, Saturday (18/6).

However, Ibrahim has not been able to reveal the identity of the victim. He only mentioned that they were residents of Bogor and Bandung. Ibrahim also expressed his concern and condolences.

Earlier, Persib’s Viking Club reported the death of two supporters — Soopiama Yusuf from Bogor and Ahmad Solihin from Cibaduyut — via their official Instagram account @officialvpc. Although the cause of death was not divulged, Viking Club confirmed that they both died after watching a football match.

“Our deepest condolences to the victims and their families left behind. Goodbye my friend, I hope you will be accepted by His side, Al Fatihah,” the statement said. (un)
