Transjakarta asked to beef up security to prevent sexual harassment inside its buses


Jakarta, IO – Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono asked PT Transjakarta to improve the security in its buses and stops after a string of sexual harassment cases happened recently, reported Sindonews, Thursday (23/2).

H also appealed to the public to take an active role if they see an incident, help the victim and report it to Transjakarta. A female passenger identified as H was sexually harassed while making a trip from Monas to Pulogadung during rush hour on Monday (20/2).

The victim uploaded a video of two people trying to restrain the perpetrator who jumped from the bus stop. He fell and then fled.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said the perpetrator, identified as M, has been arrested. He works as a daily worker at Tambora Police Station, West Jakarta, reported Detik, Thursday (23/2).

Trunoyudo clarified that M is not member of the police force. He used a public transportation access card belonging to a policeman AS with his knowledge. (bp)
