Up in Netflix since 15 December 2022, the movie tells the story of Dina, a highly moral policewoman who has to cooperate with four former assassins to avenge her father.

Initially, Dina investigated the mysterious death of her father, Petrus. A number of clues concerning the killer led her to Bersi Island, where she found out the shocking fact that her beloved father, the very man who inspired her to be a police officer, was actually an assassin before he himself got assassinated. The surprise did not end there: Petrus was a leader of a squad of assassins that he trained and raised, including his “Big 4” lieutenants Topan, Jenggo, Alpha, and Pelor. Other than needing to solve her father’s murder, Dina must also evade being killed by his nemesis.

An interesting point in the film is how Timo showcases the idea of “family” in an unusual way. Even though Dina and The Big Four are not related by blood, they were raised, loved, and trained by the same father figure. Their love for Petrus caused them to cooperate with each other in the mission to find his killer – and in the end, to care for each other.

Timo shared his reasoning for exploring unique family values in his film in Netflix Indonesia’s YouTube channel. “I always find family issues to have their own complexity, especially in terms of reconciling how these issues affect us personally, as individuals. My previous movies, Sebelum Iblis Menjemput (“Before the Devil Comes for You”) and The Night Comes for Us both talk about family, specifically about how familial relations break down. So I still want to explore this theme, but this time, I said, ‘You know what? Let’s not end the movie with the destruction of a family. Let’s make it the establishment of a unique new family instead!’ That’s what I tried to do, and I think I did it quite well,” he declared passionately. (yas)
