Jakarta, IO – The South Kalimantan provincial government and Regional Crafts Council garnered an Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) record for the unfurling the world’s longest Banjar batik cloth called Sasirangan.

A total of 6,127 people comprising civil servants, students, and community members were involved in the event. They unfurled the cloth in the governor’s office, Banjarbaru, on August 20, as of Kompas, Fri (23/8)

Based on MURI’s verification, the cloth, which had 107 motifs, measured 6,008 meters long. South Kalimantan Crafts Council head Acil Odah said the initiative was part of the efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of South Kalimantan.

“With the extraordinary support from many parties, this is an expression of our love and pride for the province’s cultural heritage and to preserve it for the generations to come,” said Acil.
