Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo confidently stated that the government could explain the Friday (30/12) issuance of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) 2/2022 on Job Creation which sparked a controversy.
“We [the government] can explain everything,” Jokowi said, reported CNN Indonesia, Monday (2/1).
According to Jokowi, the pros and cons that emerge from a policy or regulation issued by the government are normal.
“The government considers that there are sufficiently urgent reasons to issue Perpu 2/2022, namely the impact of the Ukrainian war which has affected many countries, including Indonesia, which is facing the threats of inflation, stagflation, multisectoral crisis, interest rate hike and food crisis,” said Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD.

Labour unions protested the Perppu issuance, especially on articles that regulate minimum wage, outsourcing, severance pay, temporary workers (PKWT), termination of employment (PHK), presence of foreign workers (TKA), criminal penalties, working hours, and extended leave. (rr)
