Four Distinct Eateries
Sectioned into four different eateries in one restaurant, The Chinese National —with its 269 seats— is presenting various Cantonese tastes. Letterpress, the tea and coffee lounge to enjoy after the meal, which also serves as a bar with its skillful and talented bartenders at night, is located on the side of the main entrance. Decorated with leather sofas and bar, Letterpress represents the old golden era of Shanghai.

Next to the lounge is The Iron and Needle shop for those who are passionate about dumplings and noodle soup. Here, the chef is live-showing the making of La Mian Noodles and freshly made dumplings by the attractive spectacle of hand-pulling and banging of the noodle dough, which is fascinating to watch.

Into the center of the restaurant, Black Powder Red is taking you to the dried authentic seven favor-spices décor to arouse your appetite. Guests will enjoy the alluring display of an open kitchen, showcasing skillful chefs stir-frying and sizzling raw ingredients to appetizing dishes.

Finally, the remarkable feature of the restaurant is Paperduck, designed to replicate the Hong Kong and China Towns’ kiosks for the guests to enjoy wide selections of Asian metropolitan’s food options, from Roast Pork, Peking Duck and various savory Hainanese Chicken.

Malaysian Kong Fook Sin, The Chinese National Executive Chef spoke about his Cantonese specialty. “I intend to highlight the authentic taste of Cantonese cuisine, from our selected ingredients with fresh vegetables, meat, and fruit. Serving and impressing the guests with delish meals has always been my passion. The guests will feel as if they are taken on a culinary expedition to Guangdong, the origin of the cuisine,” explained Chef Sin.

The Chinese National is buffet-style dining, with fifty selectable meals to choose from. Open daily from 11.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner. Guests can enjoy an afternoon tea session starting from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and assorted alcohol drinks from the bar later, 6 p.m. to 12 p.m.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant—certifed with the Government’s CHSE (Clean, Health, Safety, and Environment)—requests the guests to reserve a place by calling 021-22571188. Guests are expected to comply with 3M safety protocols: wearing masks, keeping a safe distance and regularly washing hands with soap and water. (Fred)
