Thailand, IO – Thai people are allowed to grow cannabis (marijuana) and hemp at home for medical and culinary purposes starting today, Thursday (9/6). At the same time, the Thai government also removed marijuana from the Category 5 narcotics list.

However, the Thai government implements strict procedures for the cultivation of marijuana. According to BBC Indonesia, before growing cannabis, Thai citizens must first register through an application developed and operated by the Thai Food and Drug Administration, called “Pluk Kan.” This is because Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or the psychoactive substance contained in marijuana still put the plant on the narcotics list.

Apart from planting, whoever sells or buys cannabis extracts with THC levels above 0.2% must have a narcotics sales license from the Thai government. This also applies to parties who sell cannabis plants for commercial purposes.
