Jakarta, IO – The body of Novita Kurnia Putri, an Indonesian citizen who was killed in a drive-by shooting in San Antonio, Texas, has yet been repatriated to her home city of Semarang, Central Java. According to one of the relatives, Dewi Wulan Puspitasari, the family expect her body to arrive this week as the administrative process to repatriate her body has been completed, reported Detik on Thursday (27/10).

However, there is still no news on when exactly her body will be flown back to Indonesia. Although it takes time, Wulan said that the process was pretty quick. She said she is grateful that her body received good treatment while in the US. “Alhamdulillah, in the middle of this process, because she is a Muslim, the sheikh there conducted a prayer rite for her,” she said.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo previously said there were obstacles in the repatriation process. However, he had communicated these to relevant parties. “Indeed, there are technical problems related to hospitals and death certificates,” said Ganjar as reported by Kompas, Tuesday (25/10).

Ganjar discovered the technical problems after he communicated with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. He then conveyed these to the US Ambassador Sung Yong Kim when he visited Semarang.

“When the US Ambassador came here, I told him the problem and ask for his assistance. The ambassador promised to help sort out technical problems and facilitate her immediate repatriation,” he explained. (rr)
