Students join force with labor unions in anti-government protest

Jakarta, IO – University students’ alliance, together with a number of trade unions, held a demonstration in front of the parliament compound, Jakarta, Thursday (21/04).

Around 1 pm, the crowd began to amass at the location. Some of the demonstrators wore union uniforms.

Some of their demands is to reject the postponement of 2024 elections and urge the government to slash the price of cooking oil.

The situation was calm and conducive with police and military personnel on guard. At around 5.30 pm, the students and workers began to disperse in an orderly manner. Unlike the previous demonstration, there was no riot and violence this time around. (Brian Wayapen)
