Stephen Curry Becoming an NBA All-Star MVP in his birth state

IO – Stephen Curry played brilliantly and was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2022 NBA All Star Game in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, Sunday, February 20 (or Monday morning Indonesian time).

Competing at Rocket Mortgage Arena, Curry managed to record 50 points, five rebounds and two assists to lead Team LeBron James to win over Team Kevin Durant with a final score of 163-160. He also scored the Kobe Bryant trophy as MVP.

Curry’s performance was motivated by charity as much as showmanship. Per ESPN’s Nick DePaula, the Ohio-born superstar was set to donate $1,000 for every point he scored, $3,000 for every 3 he made, and $10,000 if he won All-Star MVP honors, all to the Cleveland Metro School District.

The Warriors superstar guard set new marks for the most 3-pointers in an All-Star quarter (6), half (8) and game (16) while also passing James Harden on the midseason classic’s total made 3s list (39).

The peak of Curry’s performance occurred in the third quarter, when the league’s all-time leader in 3-pointers drilled a dizzying five tries from deep in 128 seconds. The eight-time All-Star had the incredulous Cleveland crowd buzzing before and after every shot.

Curry, who earlier this season passed Ray Allen for first on the all-time made 3s list, was honored as a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team at halftime of Sunday’s All-Star Game.

After the game, Curry talked about how the entire game seemed fitting for both him and LeBron. The Warriors star referenced the classic rivalry between his team and Cleveland, the host of this year’s festivities. (via The Athletic).

“I told him on the court after the game it was kind of a perfect ending. I got the MVP and played well the whole night. He hit the game-winner. All the history of our series (Cavs-Warriors) and the Akron ties, all that kind of going into it. Can’t really draw it up any other way,” said Curry, as quoted by clutchpoints.

Both Curry and James are Cleveland legends in their own ways. LeBron, well, there’s nothing that hasn’t been said about him and Cleveland: Ohio native who led his hometown team to a championship after a historic comeback against the Warriors. For Curry, it’s a little different.

Curry was also born in Cleveland, but he would become Ohio’s biggest enemy. His Warriors teams were the enemy of every Cavs fan, as they won three rings over the team in four years. In fact, Curry got booed relentlessly during All-Star Weekend. Those boos quickly turned to cheers, though, as Curry would put on a show for the ages.

Shooters shoot!! S/o to Cleveland for the boos…and then the love. Amazing weekend and @KingJames with the Game winner. Something in that Akron water An incredibly special trophy in the birth state… Humbled and Honored: Curry wrote on his twitter account.

In the end, it was a perfect cap-off for the city of Cleveland: with Curry delivering the highlights and LeBron finishing off the game with a bang. (*/rp)
