IO – Anxiety can sometimes inspire creativity, creating words, tone and harmony into a song. That’s what happened to singer Sheryl Sheinafia in the process of creating a song called Okay

Sheryl’s restlessness had appeared long before the COVID-19 pandemic. “I wrote this song last year. Long before the pandemic appeared, this song was one that was formed by flowing just like that, from the way that I really felt at the time.”

She expressed anxiety that is often ignored in everyday life. “I just realized, I rarely give my heart a chance to accept feeling tired or sad.”

For the making of the song Okay, Sheryl invited Petra Sihombing to collaborate. “I made this song with Petra. He can translate my mind into music, he also knows where this song’s vision will go.”

In making music videos, Sheryl works closely with Benny Lim. By using online directing techniques via smartphones, Benny managed to take a natural shoot that carries the intention, according to this song.

Through the song Okay, Sheryl tries to share a message with all of us, that when we fail to achieve something, we will feel sadness and disappointment. But don’t worry, just face it with enthusiasm and self-confidence.

“Every bad day is real, and that doesn’t matter. Hopefully this song can be a reminder that sadness is there to be felt. The important thing is that tomorrow we start again.”
