Jakarta, IO – Sidowarno Village in Klaten, Central Java, is among one of 75 villages that received the 2023 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI). This village is known for its shadow puppetry.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said the shadow puppet from this village is very unique because they are made of buffalo skin.

He also emphasized that shadow puppetry is a UNESCO-recognized cultural asset of Indonesia that must be always preserved.

“Shadow puppetry has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. We hope that Sidowarno will become a leading tourist village and the welfare of its people will improve,” said Sandiaga, reported Kompas, Monday (5/6).

Sandiaga believes that tourism villages can be a window of opportunity to introduce local culture to as many people as possible around the world.
