Semeru Cold Lava Flood Destroys 4 Bridges Connecting Villages in Lumajang


Jakarta, IO – Mount Semeru’s cold lava flooded parts of Lumajang, East Java. Most recently, it hit Candipuro district. As a result, one bridge was destroyed.

To date, it was reported that four bridges have been destroyed. East Java Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Satriyo Nurseno said the lava flood also affected five villages, per Detik, Saturday (8/7).

“As a result of the flooding, access to five villages has been cut off,” said Nurseno.

The five villages are Sidomulyo, Pronojiwo, Jugosari, Kloposawit and Tumpeng.

The four washed away bridges connect Kloposawit and Tumpeng villages in Candipuro district. The Regoyo River Bridge connects Jugosari with South Kebondeli hamlet in the same district.

“In addition, it also affected the bridge connecting Tumpeng and Nguter villages and the Lumajang-Malang bridge in Sidomulyo village, Pronojiwo district,” he explained.

Satriyo said that thecold lava flood also caused road closures in a number of locations in Lumajang. (un)
