IO – General Chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto has urged all party cadres to do their utmost to save PT Garuda Indonesia, now teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, reported Ahmad Muzani, Secretary-General of the Party.
“Garuda’s liabilities are estimated to have mounted to Rp 60 trillion. The company that has become known as a “Pride of the Nation” is predicted to collapse.
Chairman Prabowo remarked that Gerindra Party should not remain silent in acknowledging this threat,” observed Muzani, at a Gerindra Regional Coordination Meeting in Palembang, South Sumatra, Sunday (31/10/2021).
Muzani added that the Chairman has encouraged all cadres to offer up any viable solutions they might conceive to save Garuda Indonesia. This airline must keep its planes in the sky as a symbol of the pride of Indonesia.
Muzani explained that Garuda Indonesia is a company built along the journey of Indonesia’s struggle. “If deemed necessary, all Gerindra’s legislators are prepared to alleviate the airline’s debt burden, so that Garuda can continue to exist as a state-owned enterprise (SOE) – one that unites the Indonesian archipelago.”
“If Garuda, which has a long and distinguished history, is allowed to go under, what about other SOEs? This goes to show how accurate are the vision and mission that have been conveyed by Chairman Prabowo. Therefore, we, including Gerindra in South Sumatra, implore him to run in the 2024 presidential election. One key goal is to save national assets from
such problems,” said Muzani.
“The power we aim to secure in 2024 represents a struggle for the welfare and safety of the nation, including that of its assets. This will only be possible if all elements in Gerindra prepare themselves for the struggle from this point onward,” Muzani declared.
Muzani added that all infrastructure built in the Jokowi era must fortify the country’s economy, that it might become more vibrant and the Indonesian people more prosperous. “In our view, the one who is capable of doing that is Mr. Prabowo. This would also be in line with the aspirations of the South Sumatran people, through their regional representatives of Gerindra for Chairman Prabowo to run in 2024 (election),” concluded Muzani, who is also the Chairman of the Gerindra Party faction in the House of Representatives (DPR).
In the same spirit, Andre Rosiade, a member of Committee VI of the DPR from the Gerindra faction, said he would attempt to save Garuda Indonesia from insolvency, as instructed by Chairman Prabowo Subianto.
Andre said that Committee VI would summon SOE Minister Erick Thohir and Garuda Indonesia management to discuss concrete solutions to save the national airline.
Andre declared that the Gerindra faction would spare no effort to assure that the Government is solid and unanimous in its quest to save Garuda Indonesia. (Des)
