Jakarta, IO – Save the Children, together with the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) and the Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLKH) launched “Climate Generation” movement in Kemang, Friday (22/4).

“This action is a movement initiated and led by children and young people to ensuring that children and their families especially those who are directly impacted by the climate crisis can survive and adapt, as well as strengthen more child-friendly climate change mitigation efforts,” Save the Children Indonesia Foundation spokesperson Selina Patta Sumbung told Observerid.com.

Selina explained that based on Save the Children’s global report “Born into the Climate Crisis” published in September 2021, millions of Indonesian children born in 2020 are at risk of facing threefold increase of flooding from overflowing rivers, twice as frequent droughts and three times as likely to experience crop failure.

“Even worse, the impact of this climate crisis is making millions of children and families fall into persistent poverty in Indonesia,” said Selina.
