Sales of Salman Rushdie’s novel soar post-attack

Jakarta, IO – The Satanic Verses made it into the Amazon’s bestseller list just a few days after its author, Salman Rushdie, was stabbed 15 times while giving a lecture at the Chautauqua Institute in New York on Friday (12/8). The attack left him with serious injuries to the neck and liver. He reportedly may even lose one of his eyes.

Before the attack, his controversial novel was not even in the top 100 bestsellers on Amazon, according to CNN Indonesia, Saturday (20/8). Rushdie is now said to be recovering. He has been taken off the ventilator and be able to talk to investigators about the incident.

The district attorney announced 24-year-old Hadi Matar as the suspect. He is now under police custody and is expected to be charged with attempted murder. (un)
