2. Doubt Relying on US as an alliance

Despite Japan’s relationship with the United States, Japan can no longer rely on the United States in many scenarios; also, Japan’s unhappiness and remorse over the anti-war constitution of peace on both sides of the Pacific has pushed Japan far from a real pacifist country. Although the Japanese navy is formidable today, it lacks long-range offensive capabilities. Although the US has pledged to protect Japan and strike against any country that attacks it, this will only be effective if the US maintains a dominant place in global affairs. However, in Asia, China is fast reaching US military parity, therefore whether the US likes it or not, the US is relinquishing control, and Japan must be self-sufficient in ensuring its own security. In other words, Japan can no longer rely only on an alliance with the United States, whose dominance in Asia is fading.

Conclusion

Although it has only been used twice in history, nuclear is the most dangerous and terrifying menace to date. Nuclear weapons can not just constitute a danger, but they can also be used to avert a larger war. In his famous theory of deterrence, Harvard nuclear strategist Thomas Schelling stated that the diplomatic use of force and coercion is a method of modifying adversary behavior. If the opponent is aware of the dangers involved, they will think twice before retaliating. Putin’s nasty game in Russia-Ukraine is a unique concern for Japan, which is near to China and North Korea, both of which may threaten Japan with nuclear weapons at any time. Although nuclear weapons are now exceedingly unlikely to be used by a hostile country, they do improve on conventional warfare tactics. (Syarifah Huswatun Miswar)
