Jakarta, IO – Law and Human Rights Ministry’s Directorate General of Corrections spokesperson Rika Aprianti confirmed the news that Muhammad Rizieq Shihab has been released on probation today after serving his prison sentence since December 12, 2020.
“The person concerned [Rizieq] received probation on July 20, 2022,” said Rika, as reported by detik, Wednesday (20/7). Rika added that Habib Rizieq’s probation period will last until June 10, 2024.
Rizieq left the prison at 06.45 WIB. The former leader of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) was jailed after he gathered large crowd at his Petamburan residence during the height of the pandemic.
He was sentenced to eight months for this violation at the end of May 2021. Then in the case of a swab test at the UMMI Hospital, Rizieq was sentenced to four years in prison by the East Jakarta District Court at the end of June 2021. (un)
