Regent Threatens to Sink Tourist Boats Due to Neglect to Pay Garbage Retribution

Jakarta, IO – West Manggarai regent Editasius Endi threatened to sink tourist boats if they do not pay garbage retribution to the region.

According to him, ships that neglect to pay the fees only bring damage to West Manggarai waters.

“These ships must immediately leave West Manggarai waters because there are too many ships operating here,” he said, per Medcom, Tuesday (22/8).

In the plenary session on the submission of results of the bylaw drafting agency (Bapemperda) on regional taxes and fees, Editasius said ships that neglected to pay garbage fees are “public enemy” that deserves to be sunk.

“The West Manggarai Regency Government will not tolerate and will not be lenient,” said Editasius.

He also suspects the act was part of a “game” played by certain unscrupulous party. Therefore, he gave a serious warning. “If my conjecture is correct, I demand that it be stopped!” said Eddie.

Previously, Marselinus Jeramun, deputy chair of the West Manggarai Regency Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), revealed that ships operating in the Labuan Bajo waters have not paid garbage fees. Jeramun asked the government to take firm action to ensure that Labuan Bajo sea stays clean. (at)
